THE DALT-VILA WALLED TOWN:
The walls mark the perimeter of the oldest part of the town.
The ancient walls protecting the town, raised in the 16th century to keep the population safe from attacks by the Turks, took forty years to be built. The walled enclosure is shaped roughly like a seven-sided polygon and each of its angles is defended by a fortress. The enclosure has several access points, the main entrance being the Portal de Ses Taules. Other interesting gateways are the Portal Nou, the Portella de Sella and the Portal de Soto es Fosc. The walls enclose an important historical legacy, declared as part of the Human Heritage.

ALMUDAINA. IBIZA CASTLE:
The Almudaina, now joined to the Castle, was originally the administrative and military headquarters of the Muslim ‘Wali’. The lay-out is wide-reaching and the perimeter contains nine square towers. Various archaeological excavations have found remains of building materials dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, although the actual building as it stands dates from the 16th century (the Ses Voltes building, with its doorway crowned by the coats of arms of the Kingdom of Aragon and the Governor Alonso de Zanoguera) and 18th century (the barracks belonging to the Infantry battalion around the courtyard).Also in the 18th century, the Almudaina was joined to the Castle after the collapse of a stretch of wall and the tower standing between both edifices. The building, later, in the 19th and 20th centuries, underwent a series of renovations (kitchens, gym, etc.).The fortress was built under the orders of Philip II in the 16th century. During its first period it was formed by six bastions, the most outstanding being those named St. George and St. James. At a later date, work was carried out by Antonio Jaime. The St. Lucia bastion was built during the third period and in the last phase of construction, conducted by architect Alfonso Rubián, the castle and the citadel were completed.
